Bachelor Degree: Concordia College
Master Degree: Capella University
I am a dedicated and passionate teacher who loves working with children of all ages! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with a Minor in Violin performance from Concordia College and a Master's Degree in Specialized K-12 teaching from Capella University. My main instrument is the violin, however I am well versed on teaching all string instruments and also teach beginner and intermediate piano. Growing up I was lucky to have very strict private teachers from Russia for both the violin and piano.
My teaching experience began when I was very young. At the age of 15 I started my private studio out of my parent's basement. Within two year's I had a full studio with 20+ students. I worked with those students and in another studio while completing my Bachelor's Degree. I will begin my 17th year of teaching strings to inner city children in my local school district. Additionally, for the last five years I have had the pleasure of teaching very young students (ages 2-5) in a master class setting.
For beginning string students, I start students with 'Time For Strings' written by Fishburn and Luman. This book is especially helpful for beginners due to the unique rhythmic approach. I also have an all-inclusive curriculum for beginning strings. When ready (usually within the first 6-8 months of lessons), all students are encouraged to participate in NYSSMA Festival's. Students taking private lessons are also encouraged to be part of my yearly recital. Many of my students have participated in Area-All State and All-State Orchestra and have gone on to various musical carreers!
Teaching students has been a passion of mine from a very early age! My mother was a teacher; she inspired me to follow my love of both music and children by going into the field of music education. All students learn in different ways; I feel it is most important for children to ENJOY playing their instrument while focusing on skills such as building proper technique, note-reading and musicality. Some children may learn new concepts by watching and listening while others may process better using music with movement.
