I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working students and sharing my love of guitar. From 2013-2014 I attended Visible Music College as a Modern Music Major with a Guitar focus. I have gotten to travel all over the United States through playing music and love to share the gift of music with other musicians to do the same. As a former worship pastor and student worship pastor I love growing students in their abilities and walking though speed bumps with them along the way and their instructor.
My teaching experience dates back to college where I began teaching private lessons part time 6 years ago, I have since taught through several seasons while in town. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize especially for younger students. I want to find the things that inspire my students to play and focus on that as a motivator. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then Im not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter into live music and band situations as well as original compositions. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
For beginning students I have typically started with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, as that is what I started with. Once they have progressed to have a grasp on the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce songs/music that they bring as inspiring pieces. For adults, I try to keep lessons engaging and fun no matter their ability level by finding out what they are interested in and what brought them to desire to learn to begin with. Weather it through a prewritten book or tabs/charts that I write out for the student, I always give homework and practice material both visual and audial.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can tailor to their wants and needs. The importance of keeping up engagement and making sure guitar is fun is most important to my teaching style.
