Overview:
I am an energetic, enthusiastic violin and viola teacher passionate about passing on the craft of string playing. Creating and sharing musical art is my lifelong mission. I started learning violin at the age of 4, but I firmly believe you can start at any age. I grew up in Salt Lake City, where I graduated from the University of Utah in 2020 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance. In 2021 I relocated to Chicago, where I graduated with my Masters in Violin Performance from The Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in 2023. I now live and teach in New York City, and I love it! My experience performing around the world in orchestras, chamber ensembles, and as a soloist helps me be a more effective and inspiring teacher.

EXPERIENCE
My first violin student started with me 9 years ago during my undergraduate studies in Utah. I realized that teaching is much different than performing and started taking classes to be a better instructor. I grew up studying the Suzuki books and have registered Violin Teacher Training Units 1-4 with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. In college, I studied Violin Pedagogy with the esteemed pedagogue Dr. Kasia Sokol-Borup who demonstrated how to enhance the Suzuki method with other styles of teaching. From 2016-2020 I conducted an elementary school orchestra, gaining valuable experience leading group classes. Since that first student all those years ago, I have taught dozens of violinists of all ages and abilities.

METHODS USED
I consider myself a Suzuki Teacher, but I supplement the method with other books, pieces and methods depending on the age, level, needs and interests of each student. For most of my students, I use Artistry in Strings, I Can Read Music, Introducing the Positions, Wolfhart, and more in addition to Suzuki. As a teenager I formed a strong interest in alternative styles besides classical and learned pieces from many genres including pop, rock, electronic, and show tunes. This background helps me select music for students with an interest in those areas. I always try to keep lessons fun and interesting by focusing equally on technique and artistry.

LESSON STYLE
In my lessons, I balance technique with musicality; though learning the violin requires discipline, I maintain a comfortable, friendly atmosphere while pushing pupils to achieve results. As a teacher I prioritize inspiration while providing structure for growth and flexibility to accommodate individual needs. This means setting realistic goals, regular practice routines, and acknowledging accomplishments, preferably in a recital or performance. I try to pass on my own passion for music while nurturing my students' interests in a safe environment that cultivates growth and progress.

My daughter came to Connor two years ago having never played any instrument. Connor instantly created a rapport with my teenager, who was self-conscious about learning the violin much later than her peers. Connor's encouragement and skillful ability helped my daughter rapidly master fundamental skills. After taking in-person and virtual lessons from Connor, her musical confidence increased so much that she auditioned for her school's highest orchestra and was invited to join without previous orchestra experience. Under Connor's tutelage, she continues progressing. During fourth quarter, her conductor moved her to second chair playing with a talented violinist of nine years. Connor is both a compassionate and skillful instructor. You will be fortunate to work with Connor.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
