Overview:
I am a 42 year old Male instructor, who has lived in Seattle since 2006. Moving from the Southwest, I am currently a professional music instructor and performer.. Enjoying the outdoors immensely, I often find myself riding my bicycle, jogging and hiking in the Great Northwest. I have a large interest in soccer as well, spending time enjoying watching and playing it around the city.
Music is largely my main passion, I play it and enjoy attending live music Covid permitting.
I have a small residence in unincorporated King County. Happy to host lessons and or host Skype classes.
EXPERIENCE
I have taught in the classroom, small group settings as well as one on one in both piano and drumset. My favorite thing about music instruction is connecting with the students on a musical and personal level.
I started studying piano at the age of 5, making it my career as a teacher after college and into adult life. Choosing to focus more on drumset and percussion studies at the age of 11, I then studied Percussion Studies in College, playing in many bands and in multiple styles. I currently play drum set in a Latin Jazz group, percussion in a Standards Jazz group and teach piano to ages ranging from preschool to senior citizen.
METHODS USED
I teach the Faber and Faber method on piano, incorporated with a by ear curriculum that I've developed which also teaching music theory, I also keep a number of books i.e. Beatles Fake Book, Introduction to Bach, Well-Tempered Klavier, Hanon, Berklee Method in Rock and Jazz. I also encourage the student to play what they desire to play, be it a pop song or a classical masterpiece.
In drum set I work on technique, playing with flow, rhythm training, and coordination, often supplementing the lesson with recordings and learning from the sound of recorded drummers.
LESSON STYLE
With my teaching style, I prefer to work on what the student has an interest in if they are old enough to know. There is no better feeling than to work with a student who is enjoying the study of the current material. I also enjoy teaching beginning composition and bringing out the music from within.
When the child is at a young age, I incorporate curriculum that targets ear-training and listening, reading, rhythmic awareness and time-keeping, and theory.
I enjoy making the lesson fun by incorporating both examples of recorded music, in depth knowledge and experience and a relaxed friendly demeanor. Music should be fun, not argumentative.

Conor is terrific. He engages my sons (even the little one who is only 4!) and has really taught them to enjoy the piano. He is approachable and fun but also instills the right amount of seriousness to the lessons. great teacher!
