I am a ethusiastic and motivational flute instructor that graduated in 2015, from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Education and Music Composition. At the University of West Georgia I participated in wind ensemble, flute choir, clarinet ensemble, flute quartet, chamber ensembles, woodwind ensemble, and concert band, where I was placed first chair every year I participated in ensemble playing at the University of West georgia. I have played along side the Macon Smphony and Carroll Symphony orchestras as a result of competitions o I currently perform and teach in the Carrollton and middle Georgia area doing freelance work, composing music, and teaching private flute lessons.
I started my teaching experience in college instructing private flute lessons to students in the Carrollton Georgia area. I worked as a flute instructor and marching band clinician at Carrollton High School, Carrollton Middle School, Mt. Zion High School, Mt. Zion Middle School, Temple Middle School, and I have taught students at Central Middle School. I encourage, motivate, and educate students on tone, scales, etudes, repertoire, sight reading, correct posture, and having a regular practice schedule to really ensure their success in lessons, and by doing this I allow students to grow and develope their skills as musicians. I have found students truly succeed by having a mixture of classical, spiritual, cultural, and popular music in their repertoire, and I have found that allowing students to know their strengths and weaknesses which are essential to know for a speedy developement of musicianship and musicality. I personally first build on the students weaknesses, so their strengths can be more defined, and I have found that this mothod works best for making a well rounded musician.
For beginners through intermediate students I normally use the Rubank Method, Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Trevor Wye Tone, and Boehm Method books to start students out on to ensure their success in band class and their affordability for home practice. The method books I listed before really give students a good sense of technique, theory, history, and phrasing as a early musician, and with my guidence my students can really work and learn fast. Once the student has progressed and have grasped the fundamentals of playing their instrument I normally start students out with solo repertoire and etudes for recitals or auditions for commnity ensembles. For advanced students I normally will have them learn complete pieces of music from the standard repertoire of music and I normally move them on to more advanced method books at a quicker pace then what they start out with. I believe in having students perform in community ensembles to better themselves as musicians and to have motivational compitition with thier peers, so I will always be teaching students adutition repertoire and professional qualities of a musician.
I believe in developing a sense of passion for music and drive to always want to learn in students, because as a parent and teacher we want students to succeed and make something of themselves when they get out in the real world. Through hard work and disciplne I belive students can learn to be driven to succeed, and I think that music is a stepping stone in teaching self motivation and continuous learning. I accomplish all the items stated before by setting realistic goals for the students and helping them really manage what they want truuly need from me to accomplish their goals and the goals I have set for them. By having a high standard of excellence in playing music my students can expect to truly be pushed to succeed and have a sense of striving to succeed.
