I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I was the principle pianist for the Martin Symphonic Orchestra and one of the main soloists for the Martin Jazz Group. I was an opening act performing on synthesizer with my band at the Kansas City Music Festival. I've won many awards and medals competing on flute and saxophone at the local and state level. My current band won a recording and promotion contract for a major recording studio in Nashville.
I began teaching private lessons full time in 2011. I know that when students have fun and see progress at every lesson, they are motivated to become better musicians. As a result, progress is quicker and my students retain what they have learned. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music, as well as learning music I have composed, helps students enjoy the piano and motivates them to practice and continue to see improvements in their understanding and playing abilities. For my students interested in competitions, recitals, and/or becoming internationally certified, I have helped my students attain their goals. I encourage every student start composing their own original music so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all abilities!
For all of my students, I find out what they are interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly. I typically start with the Piano Adventures series and my own compositions. Once my students understand the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first performance or competition. All of my students get a complete musical education by learning theory, performance, and music history. It's important that lessons are engaging and paced accordingly to maximize my student's enjoyment and keep their interest for our entire lesson.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop a passion for music! it's important that each student progresses at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By finding out what inspires each student, I successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Referrals are my main source of new students since they and their parents enjoy solid results from each lesson, and have fun in the process!
