I have my AA in music. I studied at Ventura College, which has one of the best musical programs for a city college. I studied all levels of ear training, music theory, and took many years of private composition lessons. I performed violin in the full orchestra, jazz band, and many chamber music and small combo groups. I have played in orchestras since I was 11 years old and took private guitar and violin lessons from age 10-19.
--I have won two 2nd place awards in violin competitions, in which I performed a memorized three-movement violin concertos with a full orchestra.
--I have played in rock, jazz, and experimental bands for 10 years.
--I worked for a conservatory in southern california called Heritage Home Conservatory in which I travelled to students homes to teach guitar and violin lessons.
--I have taught lessons for 6 years.
--I have self-recorded and produced 3 albums with a rock band
--I have been hired to play with churches, recording artists, and jazz groups.
-- I actively record my own music and have recorded more than 40 songs.
I am a very happy, relaxed, and patient instructor. I have been teaching guitar and violin lessons for about 7 years. I enjoy sharing the knowledge and experience I have gained through a wide range of musical experiences, such as playing violin with classical orchestras for 8 years, taking private guitar and violin lessons for 9 years, and playing in many rock, jazz, classical, and experimental groups. I have been playing music for 14 years now and I am very passionate about learning more, composing my own music, and performing in my own bands. I treat each student uniquely and create lessons that will help them achieve their individual goal. I love to make music fun and encourage students to create their own music. I love getting technical if students want to learn music theory and how to write and read music, but I am very open to staying simple if the student solely wants to learn how to play chord changes and learn songs.
I began teaching violin lessons 7 years ago at my local community college. I then began to teach jazz and rock guitar lessons, with a couple electric bass lessons as well. I soon found that I was naturally a great teacher and that it was very fun for me. I continued teaching and developing my own way of assessing a students needs and their unique way of learning. I encourage fundamentals of your instrument: proper technique, knowledge of instrument, fundamental music theory, and creative lessons in which you may choose to learn how write your own music. I am open to focusing strictly on scales, chords, and exercises, or having a variety of different lessons and learning fun songs.
Depending on the student, we may begin with a book, of which I have several different favorites to work with. I have also writtien out my own music books that I can edit on my computer and update for each student. beyond using a book, we will also learn scales, chords, rhythm, and music theory. I create a lot of my own exercises for my students and that seems to really keep them interested, instead of reading from the same conventional book every lesson. I also offer composition lessons in which we will learn how song structure works, how to write harmonies, how to write for other instruments, and many other key factors in composition.
