Hello, I’ve been teaching in Broward County since 2001. I have my BA and MA from FAU where I studied piano with Judith Burganger and voice with Susan Dorchin. Before that I studied piano with Harold Brown. I’ve been trained in the area of performance and that is my specialty. However I also had overcome a medical issue using music so I am also quite proficient in music as medicine. I also have taught a wide range of students from the severely autistic to the classically trained performer. Let’s begin the next leg of your musical journey together.
I began teaching in 2001. I teach voice, piano, and didgeridoo. I have performed at multiple locations locally including the Broward Performing Arts Center and the Lincoln theater. I have taught college Theory classes and Music Appreciation classes and have my MA in music history and literature. I belong to local teaching associations and students have the opportunity to perform for local things like the Guild and Festival as well as compete in local and state competitions. I have been a judge for local competitions also.
In voice I teach what I learned the Alexander Technique method of singing which focuses on posture and alignment. In piano I learned the Russian method and do teach it but I also teach the popular and Jazz method of fake book reading. I use whatever method the student require based on their ability to learn and what there goals are but am fond of the Faber and Faber method. This method encourages developing both hands equally and has enjoyable songs. I encourage student to perform often but do not require it. I feel performing gives them a goal to work towards.
I’ve been told I am a very encouraging teacher. My goal is to teach the student something new in every class. Lessons can focus on technique, performance, sight reading / singing, ear training, music history, music theory, composition, improvisation, fakebooks and more. Piano lessons can cover everything from how to sit at the piano to using rotational movements to get accuracy in large leaps. I focus on musicality. A student does have to be Lang Lang to sound beautiful. I focus on the 5 things that when thought about and practiced correctly create beautiful music no mater how simple the music.
