Overview:
I am a working concert guitarist with degress from Purchase College (NY), in studio composition and post-grad from the University College Dublin (Ireland), in Musicology. I have been teaching for over 10 years in multiple instruments, music theory and composition. I have toured, as a solo artist, all over the US and released multiple discs as an independent artist. In addition, I continuosly, write orchestral scores for ballet, contemporary dance, tv/film companies. Over the years have shared the stage with many top artists in the rock and classical genres of music. I teach out of my own studio, which has access to many teaching tools such as multiple instruments, computers and white board, making teaching more extensive and fun having all the tools I need, conveniently.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching for over 10 years. I have taught many students in multiple instruments and genres. I have a tendency for keeping students for many years and have had students go on to recording their own discs, music schools for college and taking their experience right to the stage for live shows. I encourage my students to develop their art and play live as much as they can. With over 25 years of playing multiple instruments, multiple music degress, constantly playing live concerts and writing music scores, I can teach and help develop my students in a way that will help them with their art and other aspects of their lives.
METHODS USED
When starting with new students; I like to get to know them, their experience and what they want to learn. I am here for my students to let me know what they want to learn. If they are not sure, I go in the direction I feel they should go. Letting my students choose what they want to learn, helps me and makes the student happy and continue with classes. Music should be a fun and educational experience in their lives. Every student is different and I dictate my classes in that fashion; from beginner to advanced.
LESSON STYLE
Every student starts or resumes classes at different levels. My job is to recognize that level and proceed accordingly. I like my students to be able to learn and progress at the rate they can or want to. Letting students let you know what they want to learn and at what pace, helps the student as well as the teacher in that progress. I like to tell my students that they will not only be a good player, but know exactly what they are doing. Playing is one thing. Knowing what you are doing and playing it well makes you a complete player.
