My passion for music began at an early age when I found myself drawn to the guitar. I knew from the moment that I picked up my first guitar that I had discovered what I truly loved. This passion grew stronger as the years went on which led me to become interested in providing instruction to those who share this same love. Music has helped me get through life's toughest moments and has provided me with lasting memories that won't soon be forgotten. I received my Bachelors from Rutgers Univ in 2005 and my Masters Degree from Rutgers Univ in 2012. For almost two decades I have worked in the audio/visual field at Rutgers and have developed a keen ear for all things audio. This immersion within the pedagogical field has given all I need to know to become the best guitar instructor I can be.
EXPERIENCE
My love for playing guitar/teaching how to play the guitar dates back to when I was a young man learning how to play from my instructor. My teacher instilled in me what it meant to play guitar and gave me the confidence to do the same for others. Music has always played a crucial role in my life and it has gotten me through some tough times. My instructor helped me to realize the importance of what an instrument can do, not only for boosting my confidence, but also for how I live my life. I believe that is important for me to impart this same knowledge and love of music/guitar to my students.
METHODS USED
For my students who are starting out as beginners, I want to make sure that I go at the pace at which the student feels most comfortable. If a student feels uneasy about the pace of the lesson then I will scale it back. The last thing I want to do is make my students second guess the reasons for why they picked up a guitar in the first place. The lesson will suffer, progress will not be made and we won't be having fun. Having fun is what an instrument is about. I also like to stress to my students how it is crucial to practice. A 30, 45 or 60 minute lesson will not make someone an expert at guitar. Only practice and hard work will.
LESSON STYLE
When I am one on one with a student I feel that it is good practice to tailor my lesson plan around the student and their skill set. If my student were to tell me that they want to work on something specific or would like to learn a song that they are into then that is what I will focus on. The most important part of guitar lessons is to have fun and be in the moment. I would never want my students to feel as if they are studying for a test, and if they get something wrong I want them to know that they can come to me for help. Nothing feels better than when a student of mine feels the same joy and excitement for guitar that I do.
