Hi. Thanks for checking in. I am a professional singer and voice teacher w over 30 years teaching experience. All styles, ages 17-? In lessons, we focus in on anatomy and physiology. This means breathing and vocal mechanics and how to achieve great singing w great technique! Repertoire’ is important, and we spend a lot of the lesson w application of technique in song. My personal experience as a pro singer as well as my ongoing studies as a teacher, help me to continue to grow and get better and faster at communicating the concepts of voice to the student. It all makes for a great singer!
I started on my journey when I was 18. I had been singing for several years in a Black Sabbath cover band , and I had developed vocal nodules. Back then, surgery was suggested, and so surgery I had. Thank god there was no scarring.. this traumatic experience immediately brought the study of my own voice into mothers forefront of my life as I was pursuing a career in rock at that time. I began study w several classical teachers but my manager at the time insisted on the legendary Don Lawrence. I studied w Don but was inclined back to more classical bellcanto study. Finally, I met William Riley( Celine Dion, Whitney Houston), and began an 11 year study w him. I learned the connection between technique and application w all genre’ and am eternally great full to him for his mentorship. Uh- oh. I’m out of space but:… The story of my history continues. Feel free to inquire within.
I am a Highly trained student of “ Belle Canto” singing. This is the study of classical voice focusing on beautiful tone and fluidity in all styles. I sang and still sing rock and jazz regularly. Using this study of voice applies so perfectly to all of these styles as well as most styles that we enjoy in the western world. The student is taught and is asked to practice on a regular basis, a series of bell canto based skill building vocal warm up exercises daily that I have available on all of the popular formats. We then review and practice and apply these exercises to song. Then great singing occurs!
Learning. It has to be fun. Case in point: I usually select repertoire’ that is conducive to the students learning but often out of their safety zone. The student usually responds quite favorably to new genre’, but if they don’t, we move on to another song that won’t just help them learn, but will be fun or enjoyable for them to learn. Enjoy the process and the learning will happen organically. One of the great joys of an educator is to see the progress in the student. When I get you guys to sing better, it’ means a lot to me. Who doesn’t want to do their job well??
