Bachelors in music performance at Kent State University
I have been teaching for over 15 years and I love watching students grow in their musical abilities. I get so excited when the passion comes out of them into their playing. I got my Bachelors in music performance on cello, but I started on piano and violin when I was six years old. I have performed all over Northeastern Ohio and it was a great experience being able to share the love of music with other people. I have also had the pleasure of performing with the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra. I love teaching!
I started teaching when I was in high school. I was inspired by both my parents who are teachers and I learned a lot from them. I started growing my studio when I was in school, about 7 years ago, I was teaching at soundboard music in Stow, Ohio. My private studio kept growing so i decided to leave the music store and it has been growing since then. I love encouraging students to practice and keeping them motivated to really work hard and feel good about what they had done. I will always be accepting new students of all ages!
When i start a beginner student, i like to use either Essential Elements or Suzuki for violin and cello. For piano, i like to use the Faber method books. As the student progresses with either instrument, I try to encourage them to continue with scales and to move up in their playing abilities and music reading. I try to mix it up for my students and ask them what they like to play just to keep them interested. I also like to keep the challenge but at the same time, they feel inspired. I focus on technique quite a bit and note reading.
I love watching my students grow and be inspired to play something they like! I do try to be sensitive to each student's learning pace. I always ask them if they have any questions and make sure I'm not going too fast for them, or too slow. I do my best to praise my students when I can tell they have worked hard and I try to keep them inspired and motivated to keep going and try to get something to the next level. I focus a lot on scales and motivating my students to practice them everyday. I also focus on intonation on violin and cello. It's important to play in tune.
