I am a saxophone player in the Baltimore area looking for some new students
I have taught students from 6-60 since I was in college. Their skill range has been from 1st day picking up the horn to advanced semi-professionals
I am a big proponent of ear training. I do a lot of "I play a pattern and you play it after me." I also focus on reading, but it is not nearly as important as having a solid understanding of intervals and language.
4 fold method: Sound: focus on sound exercises to develop exactly the tone and inflection you want in your playing Technique: work on the basics of the instrument so you can get around easily and not have any barriers to playing what you hear Language: solidify generally accepted langugage to help you better understand how to play in groups Repertoire: gain an understanding in how to memorize and perform different pieces in the style you want to be proficient in.
