Overview:
I am a local musician and music teacher. I graduated from Long Beach State University in 2015. I studied there with Dr. David Garrett and Mark Uranker. I have a wide range of experience in multiple instruments as well as multiple styles of music. My teaching style focuses on inspiring the student to want to see how well they can do. My philosophy of teaching is that if the student doesn't want to learn, it is my job to get them to want to do so. I am excited to be doing music, because it's been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I look forward to meeting you!
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching private cello and guitar lessons in 2009. Over time, I have branched out to teach piano and bass guitar. I have experience working with students one-on-one or in groups. I keep the lesson fun and engaging, while still focusing on important concepts. I focus on technique with a light mixture of music theory. I usually use the Suzuki Method but I'm open to other teaching systems. For example, I currently have a student who is learning Dotzauer etudes. I'm always interested to hear a new perspective on teaching music!
METHODS USED
I use the Suzuki Beginning books for cello and double bass students. For guitar and bass guitar, I use Hal Leornard's Essential Elements. The easy-to-understand and interactive nature of the Essential Elements books make them a great teaching tool. For piano students, I use the Czerny beginner etudes. My lesson plans usually include a warm-up, a review of last week's assignment to verify that the student has practiced, the main piece the student is playing, and usually something fun to sightread in the last 5 minutes of the lesson.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is based on showing the student what works and has worked for me in the past. I draw on my own private lesson experiences as well as ways to do things that I have discovered on my own, outside the private lesson studio. I place a high value and focus on technique, especially fingering and position work, and I am very strict when it comes to rhythm and playing in time. I generally try to strike a balance between gentle yet firm- don't be intimidating, but don't try to be the student's friend either.

So far, my daughter has had 3 lessons from Daniel and we are extremely happy we found him! However, the true testimony comes from our daughter. She says, she likes his positive and encouraging approach and his ability to explain technique. She is motivated by the songs they select and excited about the progress she is noticing.
