I am a Brazilian pianist teaching in Virginia, USA. I have taught music for 18 years and studied for almost 30. I have a Master Degree in Piano from Indiana University and I taught at that same school, at DePauw University, and currently I work as a piano accompanist at Christopher Newport University. I have a lot of experience as a piano soloist, chamber musician, piano accompanist and I work with many styles of music, Classical, Tango, Pop and more. I love teaching and I treat each student individually, developing for each of them a unique curriculum that will fit their needs and Neuro Patterns the best.
I taught music for 18 years in all kinds of institutions, both in Brazil as well as in the United States. From low income communities to music universities, I worked with all levels of students and I learned how to adapt my Pedagogy and method books to any situation. I work with students that have special needs (any and all kinds) and will also teach music professionals and artists that need a boost in confidence or some feedback in their projects. The number one priority I have is that the student is engaged and desire to keep working on the material. A student that is in touch with the topic as often as possible will learn way faster, so I consider not only students Neuro Patterns and social history, but I also really listen to what they are telling me about how they feel regarding the repertoire and the process.
I work very deeply on the intersections between Neurology, Psychology, Music Pedagogy and Physical Theater. I believe the body learns best when allowed to perceive the information from multiple angles, with exercises that allow you to experience and feel things as often as you normally have to understand them. At Indiana University I was for five years the teacher responsoble for all Neurodiverse students (Autism, Blindness, Deafness, ADHD, ODD, DCD and Dyspraxia, and more). I use method books such as Faber & Faber, Bastien, A Dozen a Day, Piano Safari, Rhythm Rhythm Revolution, and many other.
I create a lot of my teaching material my self, and I developed at Indiana University a reading method that emphasizes the similarities between the clefs and allows the student to have a global view of the staff. My lessons are very energetic and fast paced, I normally prefer if parents are present in lesson taking notes, and when possible, I even teach the parents before I teach the students, so we have a consistent learning environment at home as well. I will teach students as many lessons as possible per week, so we can move quicker and always in the right direction. I will always take into consideration the needs of the student and my main goal is to keep students engaging in thinking about music for as long as possible!
