Hi! My name is Daniel and I have been teaching guitar for over 15 years. I started playing the guitar at a young age. I learned mainly by ear from the first year or two, and asked anyone I met who played to teach me anything they could. Once I knew the basic chords and could play a few songs, I began taking professional lessons. My teacher taught me how to develop my ear properly so I could learn what I wanted without any help. I still believe that this is one of the most important skills a guitar player can have. I teach this to all my students and emphasize it's importance diligently.
I have been teaching guitar for over 15 years. I teach all styles and skill levels from beginner to advanced. I have taught both children and adults and have achieved great results with both. I teach music theory, song writing, notation, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, composition, harmonization, and many other aspects of music. I have experience teaching all ages and skill levels. I can teach the basics of the guitar to someone who has never played before as well as more advanced techniques such as scales and solo writing. For even more advanced students, I also teach techniques such as sweep picking arpeggios, tapping, and other virtuoso techniques along with how to incorporate them into songs.
The first thing I do is determine the student's skill level, what the student can play, and how I can build on that. For a student who has never played before, I begin by explaining the physics of the instrument. Why a string makes a particular sound, what makes that sound higher or lower in pitch and why that is; then how to use that to write or imitate a particular melody. Slightly more advanced students will learn basic chords, strumming and picking techniques, as well as power chords using familiar songs based on which artists they like. After this I teach the student how to play and write basic lead licks and melodies over a chord progression. At this point the student is ready to start learning more advanced lead techniques and practicing scales at faster tempos.
I want to get my students playing at the level they want to as quickly as possible. In order to do this I teach them according to what they want to learn, while pushing them to play faster and learn more. If a student wishes to learn a particular song, I am always willing to learn it and teach it to them. I believe that one of the most important things about playing music is to have fun. For this reason I always try to make lessons exciting and use positive encouragement to instill confidence and a love of music in students.
