I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who would love to work with students and share the beautiful art that is music. I've been studying and playing drumset for 7 years and I am a rising sophomore at Belmont University. There, I am studying commercial percussion with an emphasis in performance and will get my degree in Bachelor of Arts in 2025. I have had the honor of studying under several widely successful drummers, including Jim Riley, drummer of The Rascal Flatts and I have applied several of their methods to my own teaching.
I am looking to build my teaching experience on Musika but I have taught a few unofficial lessons to students in their teenage years. I was also a section leader at Cresskill High School, where I led, trained, and directed the drumline. Through this experience, I have helped unlock my students' potential and build them into more well-rounded drummers. I like to encourage regular practice with a consistent schedule that my student feels comfortable with. This helps to develop a passion for their instrument and provides growth on a steady level.
For beginner students, I will introduce the basics of drumming techniques as this is the most important step in becoming a proficient drummer. Once the student has progressed and shown me that they can play simple beats with the proper technique, I will begin introducing them to repertoire appropriate to their skill level to get them to be able to play drums in a more musical manner. If the student is older and/or more experienced, I will likely start with exercises and ideas to build their level of skill within areas of their interest or what I think would benefit them the most.
One of the most important things that I strive for is seeing a student enjoy themselves and discover a passion for music like I did. This is why I make sure my students are having fun and learning at their own pace. I will guide my students to set realistic goals that they can achieve by our next lesson time, and push them to express their own creativity and interests in their playing. Acknowledging each student's small accomplishments helps to fuel their desire to progress, and helps me find out what inspires the student. By doing this, I can provide an enjoyable lesson for both me and my students, and tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
