Recognition and close partnerships with some of the industry's leading producers

2017 National Selection for Savannah Jazz Festival (Georgia)

Overview:
I'm a self-motivated, adaptable, and encouraging instructor with 14 years of performing experience and 8 years of teaching experience (6 professional). I'm an expert in vocals, piano, guitar, drums, songwriting, and I also play bass and ukulele. I graduated from University of Washington Seattle in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. I've performed countless times in competitive jazz (national), percussion, rock, drum-line, and concert ensembles. I also had the privilege of training and performing with renowned world music artists such as Amarilys Rios (Afro-Caribbean Bomba Percussion), Phyllis Byrdwell (Gospel Vocals), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (South Indian Classical). Now I've recently moved to LA to pursue the next stage of my teaching and recording career. In the last few years, I've attained recognition and close partnerships with some of the industry's leading producers for excellence in songwriting, overall musicianship, and the potential for a long-term recording career. Some of these producers include Shelly Yakus (John Lennon, U2, Tom Petty) - Former vice president of A&M Records and nominee for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Ross Hogarth (Van Halen, Ziggy Marley, Motley Crue) - Three-time Grammy winner and top LA engineer, Toby Wright (Alice In Chains, Metallica, Kiss) - Top alternative/hard rock producer of the 90s and 2000s, and Nick Didia (Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Bruce Springsteen) - 40 millions record sold.
EXPERIENCE
One of the most important factors in determining a teacher's legitimacy is their professional teaching experience. I can confidently say that along with my extensive training, education, and music industry credentials, I have 6 years of professional experience teaching every possible age, skill, and instrument combination. My most recent job involved teaching up to 35 students a week on beginner-advanced piano, vocals, guitar, drums, songwriting, and bass. Many of my students have been with me since I started there two and a half years ago. I also led the weekly performance programs with up to 25 students, preparing them for seasonal shows at popular venues. I have extensive in-home and online teaching experience as well, which includes arranging optimal commute schedules and recitals at schools and theaters. So, whether the student is a kindergartner singing ABC by Jackson 5, a 14-year-old learning recording basics, a 19-year-old preparing for a national theatre competition, a 40-year-old learning melody writing, or a 70-year-old learning the keys to Tell Me Something Good by Rufus, I can creatively adapt to the student's unique learning style and background on many different instruments. If you're curious about more information, I have plenty of references and recordings ready to send.
METHODS USED
My experience learning music by ear, theory, intuition, and sheet music on many different instruments has given me a strong background to adapt to the needs of any student. So, regardless of skill level, I like to discuss any songs, artists, and styles that the student might be drawn to. Whether the student wants to focus on sheet music like Alfred Music or Hal Leonard, theory lessons and exercises, or develop their intuition and ear, I'm excited to cater the lesson plan to you. If students come in with just an initial curiosity or are unsure about their direction, we try various songs and learning methods to see what they feel most comfortable with, what's most fun for them. I also love to ask the student questions and emphasize open communication to make sure they're an active participant in the learning process. This includes weekly lesson notes and consistent communication with any loved ones. Regarding the actual playing, I emphasize playing slow and steady while keeping the flow of the music, even when it may be tempting to play an easier phrase faster while stopping to play a harder one. I find that progress is fastest playing with that patience in mind, getting a great feel for the music. Also, it's essential to come up with a unique practice plan for the student, accommodating their weekly schedule to find a consistent amount of practice time at their own pace. Despite the repetition which practice entails, if I can motivate the student to love the process of building the muscle memory and appreciate their musical journey, that's truly fulfilling for me.
LESSON STYLE
My style is one that seamlessly adapts to all ages, learning styles, and backgrounds, resulting in a high student retention rate over the years. I provide an exciting and positive environment for students to not only learn fundamentals and techniques, but also to find and express their unique musical voice. As lessons progress at the student's pace, it's important to keep discovering what they love about music and what inspires them to learn (song, artist, style, musician friend). This helps my students cultivate a true appreciation for music while feeling excited and confident with their progress. My entire life has revolved around music since I was 13. So I can safely say that teaching and making music are the most important and fulfilling parts of my life. Thanks!

Daniel is very nice and enthusiastic in music. My 15 years old son is always glad to go to his drum lessons and vocal lessons. He can not only teach music, but also educate people on a wider variety of musical knowledge, he shared his experience in high school with my son and give him a lot useful suggestions . Very grateful for having him!

Daniel has been with my kids for the past three years, and let me tell you, he's been nothing short of amazing. From teaching keys to my daughter and vocals to my son, he's been the real deal. His knack for making music fun and accessible is absolutely out of this world. Daniel's got this vibe that instantly clicks with the kids, making them feel like they're part of something truly awesome. He's patient, he's passionate, and he's got this way of breaking down complex musical concepts into bite-sized pieces that even I can grasp! Under his guidance, my kids have blossomed not just as musicians but as confident individuals.

Daniel is such an amazing teacher. Our son came in not ever taking music lessons before (or knew how to read music). He was always so patient and extremely knowledgeable. Because of Daniel, our son LOVES playing the drums and looks forward to his lessons with Daniel. He’s the BEST!!

Daniel was an amazing and influential drum teacher to my 7 year old. His care went beyond their hours together, as I’d often find texts from him asking about his progress at home, what kit to purchase for the house, and more. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

From the moment we met Deniel, it was evident that he possessed not only remarkable musical skills but also a genuine passion for teaching. His dedication to fostering a love for music in my son was truly inspiring. One of the qualities that set Daniel apart was his ability to tailor lessons to meet my son's specific needs and interests. Whether it was exploring new techniques, helping him get ready for a school concert, or learning to play his favorite songs, Daniel always went above and beyond to ensure that each lesson was engaging and enriching, which was reflected in my son’s progress and new love of playing the guitar. I cannot recommend Daniel highly enough!

Daniel has done tremendous work with my daughter. She has improved significantly, he has boosted her confidence, and he has given her some life tools that will continue to excel her singing. Most of all she trusts him and feels comfortable around him. We are luck to work with him.

Daniel is a true jack of all trades and a master of many. He not only helped my son get into his ideal music school with a guitar audition, but also teaches bass and keys to my daughter just starting out. He has the experience to teach any level, age, and style!

My 13-yo daughter tried out 2 local piano teachers - Daniel and another - and ended up wanting to stay with Daniel. I think it was his calm, patience, and steady encouragement. She was just beginning with piano, and immediately was playing some impressive songs, learning section by section. Any song she wanted to play, she would name it and the next lesson he was ready to teach it, and had adapted it to her level. I sat in the first month or 2 of lessons - there were days where I had trouble being patient with my daughter - but Daniel has the patience of a saint. He’s nice and she learned a ton. We are sad he moved away but wish him well!
