I'm a fun and talented music teacher who's passion is music and sharing the knowledge of music with others! I love working with children and seeing the joy that music can bring come alive. In 2012 I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in piano from Bob Jones University of Greenville, SC. I met and married my husband during my time there. After my husband graduated with his masters, we moved to the Charleston area (2013). We have since added two precious children to our family and I look forward to seeing them blossom in their musical talent.
I began teaching piano as a challenge in high school, mostly to see if majoring in teaching piano is really what I should do. I learned from that experience of teaching a wide range of ages (6 years to 45 years old) that yes, teaching music is definitely what I'm geared to do! I went on to major in piano and taught a handful of others during my time in college. Upon graduating, I began teaching at Musical Innovations in Greenville, SC. While my primary instrument remains piano, at that point in time, I began teaching cello, which I began playing in 2004) and violin (something new for me at that time). I found that adding those two instruments to my "repertoire of teaching" added to my joy of teaching and overall, my appreciation of music. In lessons, I enjoy taking a mixed approach. I try to appeal to the student by having fun and trying to figure out their style of playing (by ear, by notes, etc) while also sticking to painting the big picture of music - theory, technique, classical repertoire, etc. All of my students participate in bi-annual recitals (Christmas and Spring).
For piano, I typicall start with Hal Leonard's Piano Adventures by Faber. Depending on age, we either start with the prepatory level or level 1. For cello and violin, I typically use the Suzuki methods, starting with level 1. For all instruments, I supplement with extra music for recital pieces.
I absolutely love teaching in a fun, yet structured, environment. While each student moves at their own pace, I make sure that everything like theory, technique (scales, arpeggios, etc), musicality, and more are being taught and implemented.
