I'm a young performer just finishing up my BA from CSUN. I've had a lot of training from a lot of prominent people in the industry and have broadway on the horizon! I do shows frequently here all over SOCAL and have had the opportunity to do some wonderful tours and meet amazing people!
I've been lucky enough to start teaching about three years ago under the mentor of my current voice teacher Kate Pazakis (she was taught by Liz Caplan) and I stick to her methodology pretty closely because I find that it is most relatable to the broadest group of students. I started teaching 3 years ago and the outcomes have been wonderously overwhelming! Seeing students grow and finally start to see themselves improve is a wonderful thing!
I was trained classically, but my specialty is belting. The biggest thing for me is teaching people to sing correctly. I wont compromise a students health or talent by letting them move too quickly if their only interest is learning songs. Technique is the basis for all things singing; but the outcomes will give you a big, beautiful, strong voice, that will let you do seven shows a week on broadway, or a concert tour for six months, or whatever your heart desires! There are a lot of teachers out there who don't know how to teach someone to belt correctly without hurting themselves; that is my specialty.
The first six months are the hardest! That is the time when you are building up the muscles that are going to be the fundamentals for later on in your career. Although it might seem to the student that they don't see any change, it's happening more than they think! I continuously push my students to stay positive and not to give up within the first six months. Teaching students who really want to learn and who push themselves at home is one of the most rewarding experiences when they finally make it through that first barrier. It's important as a teacher that I know exactly what the student is looking for in their lessons and what style they are looking to learn. From there, we will build a path together that will lead you to success with correct training!
