Overview:
I am a young passionate and motivated musician who loves interacting with students and sharing my love for music. I am currently a student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro majoring in Music performance with a concentration in Jazz. Mainly based in the North Carolina region I have performed all over the east coast in clubs venues and jazz festivals. I have had the opportunity to share the stage with a number of top notch musicians and have even taken my band to host one of the late night jam sessions at the Pittsburg International Jazz festival.
EXPERIENCE
My experience teaching dates back to my late years of high school, as I began teaching private lessons 3 years ago to younger classmates, and students at the local junior high. I am now currently teaching multiple students throughout the Piedmont triad area as well as online Skype lessons in trumpet fundamentals, classical and jazz. Encouraging and establishing a daily routine is a major element in progressing a students ability on their prospective instrument as well as forming a bond and passion for the music.
METHODS USED
For students of all ages and skill sets I first like to establish a personalized daily routine of fundamental exercises such as long tones, lip slurs, tone production and articulation if not already had. I use the Bill Adam approach to teaching my establishing a strong core understanding and playing of the instrument. Then working exercises out of the Arbans book, charlier etudes, and Clarke studies to better enhance performance ability. I then will introduce solo repertoire at the appropriate difficulty to push the boundaries of their ability.
LESSON STYLE
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a musician is seeing the development and growth of the next generation and their take on the music. That being said it is important that each student have a personalized style to fit the needs of the student. By setting goals and task to be practiced in between lessons I am encouraging students to push themselves and find passion and gratitude in their accomplishments. Inspiring and motivating students early on is the best method of success for students who are eager and passionate in joining the music community.
