I am a very passionate piano instructor with over six years of piano teaching experience. I received my Master's degree in Piano Performance at Boston University School of Music in 2021 and I am currently pursuing my doctoral degree in Piano Performance at Michigan State University School of Music. As a piano instructor, one of my primary focuses is to teach students how to think critically about music and develop the skills to become independent musicians. Many of my students had won major piano competitions, including the First Prize winners of the 2019 Hong Kong Liszt International Piano Competition and 2019 Asia Music Competition. As a solo pianist, I have shared my music in Asia, Europe and the United States, including the Carnegie Hall in New York, U.S, Performing Arts Center in Neuburg, German, Steinway Garden Concert Hall, Hong Kong. etc. I am also the prize winner of many national and international piano competitions, including the New York Classical Music Competition, Steinway International Youth Piano Competition, Yamaha National Piano Competition. etc.
I have over six years of teaching experience and it dates back to my college days. In 2016, I became a piano instructor at Suzhou Parsons Music Arts Center in China and began teaching private piano lessons and group music theory classes for elementary level students. Since 2018, I have maintained my private studio and started teaching intermediate and advanced level students of various ages, from the age of five up to until adulthood. I incorporate music theory knowledge, musicianship skills and aural skills into my piano teaching to help my students achieve a well-rounded piano education. Classical piano is my expertise, many of my students had won both national and international piano competitions. I am also able to teach other genres such as pop music by student's requests.
For beginner students who are children, I usually start with Faber Piano Adventures or Alfred's Basic Piano Course which are really good materials for kids to build up their fundamentals and interests in piano learning. For next step, I will begin to choose some solo repertoire of different styles for students to learn, it's important to learn different styles of music from different composers. For adults, besides learning fundamental stuff, I will also try to find out what type of music they are interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun.
Nothing makes me happier than to see my students develop a passion for music and get improvements all the time! So it is important for me to teach my students how to think critically about music and develop the skills to become independent musicians. I usually set up realistic goals for my students at each lesson and guide them how to achieve the goals step by step. I am not only a piano instructor but also a practice partner for my students. I will teach them how to practice using effective and fun methods in order to avoid inefficiency and disinterest in music learning and practice.
