Wood Badge trained, Den leader, BSA leader since 1998 Have played at church 1988 thru present taught piano since 1998 Substitute teacher since 1998
I love teaching students how to read the music. It really makes my day when they can play a piece and enjoy the music. I want them to then go forth and share the joy with others. Usually I play a piece over and over until I get it, then I have a little fun with it. I enjoy teaching music as a substitute teacher. I currently play piano or organ at 3 different congregations. Early in life I learned violin, viola, flute, recorder, autoharp, harmonica, Organ and piano. Growing up, I learned guitar. As an adult, I learned Flute, Clarinet, Saxaphone, Guzheng, drums.
I have been teaching music since 1998. My mother, aunts and grandmother taught piano. It has been a wonderful thing to have a recital and the parents see the results of all the fun the students have had. I think the students will enjoy piano music so much that they will create lifelong habits. I encourage them to enjoy other instruments and genres. Then I encourage them to start creating and composing on their own. I also have an organ and a GuZheng in my home for them to explore. I have lots of fun activities to encourage them to read music notes
I have taught siblings in a class type setting. I have taught preschoolers at preschool. I have taught Little Mozarts to little ones. I use music in the homes already, sometimes I provide things from the 50s that my aunt and uncle scribbled in: leila Fletcher, Edna Mae Burnam, classical composers-mozart, debussy, chopan, clementi, beethoven, bach. Sometimes I provide my own children's music books, Faber and Faber, Bastien, Alfred. I have taught preschool through adults. I substitute teach and have included composers in my repertoire.
I like playing games and playing through music with the student. I have flash cards, sometimes we play concentration, war, find it on the keyboard, spoons, relay races. We use gross motor skills, with big floor keyboard, dance, etc. Sometimes we do note speller things, technique learning from books. Sometimes I record them so they can see their own progress. We adjust, we just have fun. When they start spelling words with note names and are able to write and find them on the keyboard and on the staff, then we begin composing our own music.
