Overview:
Hello! My name is Darian. I am 25 years old and from Sacramento, California. I have 2 degrees and 1 certificate in music. I got my bachelors from Northern Illinois University in 2010 and my Masters and Professional Studies Certificate from The Manhattan School of Music in New York City. I have been teaching privately for now 8 years and have worked with students in all age ranges. I have also taught general music to toddlers and younger students as a part of a music education class I was a part of in graduate school. During my time in school I have had the privilege of learning from some of the best teachers in the business as well as playing in some of the most notable halls in America such as David Geffen Hall and Carnegie Hall both in New York City.
EXPERIENCE
My experience in teaching is very wide and involves many different things. I have been teaching for 8 years private trombone lessons, but in the past year I have learned the trumpet as a part of an internship I was a part of and learned to teach trumpet to beginning students as well. I also am very capable of teaching the other low brass instruments such as the euphonium and the tuba. I have also taught younger students ages 3-5 general music classes and experienced in running a classroom. I enjoy teaching very much and it has quickly become a great passion of mine through classes and experiences I've had with the students.
METHODS USED
In my methods of teaching I typically like to focus on what the students want to get better at while also incorporating fundamentals and good habits. I feel that this gives the student the ability to choose what they want to do as well as my chance to show them the right way to learn it and create good habits while playing the instruments. Usually older students I try to focus more on fundamentals and I play through method books like Rochuts or for more advanced students maybe the Bitsch book. In general I find these to be the most helpful.
LESSON STYLE
My style of teaching seems to be very relaxed. I never force anything and I always want to give inspiration and motivation to the students. I get more pleasure and comfort knowing that this is something they want to do for themselves and not something I or their parents are forcing them to do. I think this also brings out the best playing and create motivation for the student. When I am teaching I give lots of support and even like to play along to give the student confidence and know that this is something that even I would do in my own practice. Maybe if I make a mistake or two that could give confidence in the students knowing that no one is perfect and there is always room for improvement from everybody.
