2014 - Dean's List (LaGuardia Community College, Spring) 2014 - Dean's List (Queens College, Fall) 2017 - Dean's List (Queens College, Spring)
Overview:
I started learning guitar about 9 years ago in Malaysia. During that time, I also picked up running as my favorite sport. I came over to US in 2012 and graduated from Queens College with a BS in Exercise Science in 2017. During these 5 years I have been serving in church as a guitarist and teach whoever approaches me. At the same time, I also competed for Queens College in Track/Cross Country events. Music and Fitness are both my passion. Ask me anything regarding these fields and I will be happy to help you however I can!
EXPERIENCE
I have been a guitar instructor for 8 years. As an instructor, I love seeing students improving and most importantly being happy and committed with their music instrument. I also emphasize to students that the purpose of learning guitar is to not add more stress in your life, it's suppose to be a stress reliever. I realize that by saying this, students will approach and learn guitar in a healthier way. I will always do my best to make lessons light and fruitful at the same time because this way it will help students treat lessons as a time off from other duties such as school/work and at the same time being productive.
METHODS USED
For beginners, I usually introduce them the 12 main notes of music, the physical parts of the guitar, basic chords, and why these chords are named in such a specific way. As students progress, I will introduce more chords and plucking/strumming techniques. I also allow students to choose whatever songs they wish to learn. I will listen to it and decide whether students' guitar knowledge/skills are up to par for it. Depending on the song, some songs require much longer time to learn because of specific techniques used in it, meaning I need to teach it to students.
LESSON STYLE
As mentioned, I make my lessons light and fruitful. I don't want students to feel stressful learning guitar, I love it when students are at ease. I encourage students to improve at their own pace. However, it's also important to attend classes regularly (once every 1 or 2 weeks). This way it helps students keep track of their progress and not lag too far behind or sometimes even forgot about what they've learnt. I will always try to find out what music genres or artists students love, this way I can do my best to tailor lesson materials for them.
