2 1/2 years applied voice
6 yeara Studied Guitar with Vincent Bredice
Numerous clinics with various top guitar players
My musical carreer began at 3 years old when i sang on my fathers radio program. A few years later I began singing solos, Duets, Trios and quartets in Church, as well as, Choir all through Junior High and High School. I resumed my study of music at college in applied voice along with Music theory and Piano basics. It was at that time I became interested in guitar and electric bass playing and this ignited my passion for both instruments as well as coordinating Playing and singing together. I have had the priveledge of playing with some of the best musicians in South Florida and beyond. Nothing is more exciting than having a student be prepared and ready to recieve new material each lesson. I have had students that were Instructors at college and recording engineers as well as top on call players in the Nashville scene. I am currently playing in the Mark May Band, which has been in the top 5 spot on the Billboard Blues Charts most recently. Looking forward to teaching each and everyone of you! Peace!
From Church to Opera to The Blues. I sang in church my formative years and in choir all through Jr. High and High school, continuing through college in various ensembles, madrigal (Accapella Baroque), and congemporary, also, a stint with Civic Opera in Puccini's La Boheme. It was at this time that I began playing guitar and then bass shortly thereafter and did so for years before starting my teaching career. Teaching has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. After I had been teaching for a few years I began seeing certain musicians around town were quite a bit better than the rest, as I enquired I found out they all studied from the same instructor. This was a huge turning point in my playing and teaching! My teacher, Vincent Bredice, would instruct me on "how to" teach younger students and was a tremendous help in propelling my ability to teach, as well as, level of musicianship!
I have discovered all beginning guitar methods are essentially the same, so pretty much any of them will work for a beginner. It is how the individual processes the information! Some people are auditory learners, others are by the note visual learners and others are both. I was an auditory learner, but soon realized I needed the note reading to move ahead with my study. Most guitar players start out "playing by ear" while band students all learn the notes first and then if they progress they learn to "improvise". It is improvising that attracted me to the guitar and keeps me interested in pursuing a higher level of skill.
I have seen what hard work and diligent practice schedule can produce, I have had students that teach at University and others play with "A" circut bands, and yet others have their own Guitar methods, web site and are very succesful! The greatest skill a teacher can have is determining how to relate the information in a way that causes the student to want to practice and become better. It is up to me to determine how to best impact my student in a such way that challenges them and motivates them to excell and achieve greatness.
