Overview:
Welcome to the world ofqualitymusic. My name is Darshell and Ixe2x80x99m a certified Music Educator in the Bergen, Passaic and Essex Counties of New Jersey areas. Ixe2x80x99ve dedicated myself to providing a well-roundedmusic education to young peopleeverywhere. I graduated from Lycoming College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Piano Performance and received a Master of Arts Degree in Musicology from Rutgers University. Mymusic program consists of keyboard, vocal, recorder and drum instruction as well as lessons in music history, theory, composition and performance. The information taught in these classes is based on the curriculum I've written and published entitled,The Quality Music Instruction Series. If you are interested in a music program that serves as a solid foundation for a formal music education and diverse music experience, please feel free to enroll.
EXPERIENCE
My career in Music Education began in elementary school when I accompanied my Sunday School holiday programs on the piano at age 10. During my teenage years, I accompanied my church and high school concert choir. After graduating from college, I became certified in music and decided to teach piano full-time. I wrote a curriculum and established my own music studio which has expanded into a music education program that provides music instruction to pre-school-12th grade students in state educational institutions, charter schools, churches and camps. For students who are not able to attend one of the institutions at which I currently teach, online lessons from the comfort of your home are available.
METHODS USED
All students in my music program are introduced to the Quality Music Instruction Curriculum. The books in this curriculum, allow each student to advance at his/her own pace while maintaining consistent progress. In addition to the Quality Music Instruction Curriculum, lessons are supplemented with the Bastien series. I lay the foundation for music by teaching all of the necessary rudiments of music such as scales, fingering, chord structures and then I incorporate music that's appealing to the students. After a few months, the students are prepared to perform in my recitals which are held twice a year.
LESSON STYLE
Because every student has his/her own learning style, my lessons cater to those styles. I figure out a student's strengths and weaknesses. I acknowledge the accomplishments caused by the strengths while I focus on developing the weaknesses. For example, if a student excels melodically but has trouble maintaining accurate rhythm, I will engage the student in listening to and playing many interesting melodies that require him/her to pay close attention to counting the rhythms in order to master playing the melodies. Since there is no x22cookie-cutterx22 way to teach every student, many teaching styles must be implemented in order to ensure successful results for all music students.
