Two singles on Spotify & iTunes
Hey there! My name's Dave and I am very passionate about music and through my playing the goal for me has been to inspire people. I doubted my musical abilities and compared myself a lot to others and quit music on several seasons whether that be learning a difficult song or comparing myself to my role model musicians. A family friend inspired me to keep playing and since then I've been writing, performing, and working as a musician. I have two singles on Spotify and iTunes and will begin to play shows around Los Angeles to gain exposure as an artist.
I've been singing my entire life (I have home videos singing Andrea Boccelli in the bathtub) and singing has been in my family for many generations. I began playing guitar and writing songs since high school, so I have four years of experience playing and singing together, writing songs, and performing them. In high school I took a few lessons in a combo class for guitar and voice, but mostly learned from YouTube! I am a very gentle, loving person and aim to make students feel accomplished if they've practiced, but will be lovingly strict if they are not.
For my students, I like to see what type of music they are interested in and listen to a few of their favorite songs. From there we can learn chords (guitar, piano) and melodies for vocal lines. We could go the route of learning scales and theory, but since I didn't grow up learning that way, I'd prefer to go the more modern way by learning strumming patterns, chords, inversions, melodies and harmonies, and teach dynamics to make a song come together. My methods of teaching are based in valuation, ambition to learn, and they're rooted in the simple joy of it.
Of course, acknowledging accomplishments helps students feel they're progressing, but finding what truly inspires them will help them want to practice and get better. For me, I found scales and theory boring as a kid, so I wished my teachers would teach me how to play my favorite songs and write my own with a little theory mixed in instead of only learning the theory and scales. I aim to encourage my students to want to be the best they can be and to help them feel accomplished by following their dreams and inspirations.
