I started playing the bass guitar at 12, and since then I just felt in love with the instrument. I am from Brazil and performed in many different places abroad with Sao Paulo youth orchestra in Germany, France, Holland and the US. I graduated from Unesp Sao Paulo University of Arts with a Bachelor degree in Double Bass performance. I am currently in my second year of master degree in Bass performance at Temple University. I have been performing with Temple Symphony Orchestra and UPenn symphony orchestra regularly.
My teaching experience started as soon as I got into college teaching in music private school nearby, unfortunately due to my tight schedule with orchestra concerts and college I decreased the amount of students. When I was a senior in college I begun teaching middle school kids for one year and now as an Internship student at Temple I am a one of the bass faculty for CMSP (community music scholar program). I love sharing my musical experiences with my students and help them to develop a very strong and solid musical and technical skills through the bass.
For beginners, I like to make an introduction about the instrument and its particularly parts, then I start teaching scales and how they work on the instrument and on the paper. I teach how to read music, rhythm, musical figures, analyses of scales etc. Improvisation using scales and creating melodies. Harmonization, play chords, chords inversion. Playing songs with melody and harmony at the same time, creating an arrangement solo about a favorite student's song. I always combine my students musical taste with music theory and technique and giving the necessary tools for them to develop their musical creativity.
I asses each student differently according to their skills and match my teaching approach to each one individually. It is very flexible and I can combine easily musical technique to what they want to learn, that way no matter how complex the musical subject might be the student will always have a clear idea how to apply those concepts to the music or genre they are studying because it is always focused on real application of a determined technical or musical theory concept, making the basement of the student more solid.
