I’m a energetic, knowledgeable, and motivated music instructor that lives to teach music to anybody. I graduated from Louisiana State University with a music performance degree. I started my first band Director position after I graduated from LSU in 2008. I was blessed to help a band grow from 12 to 39 in the 3 years I was there. After I left, I went to The University of Central Arkansas to obtain my master of music degree. After completion of my masters, I immediately went to doctoral school.
My teaching experience starts when I was in high school. I taught private lessons as well as the lead instructor in our percussion class granted by the director. When I was in high school, I wrote to percussion scores for our marching shows. In my senior year, I was picked up by a musical touring group, and I was able to play drum set with professionals. After high school, I went to college and participated in wind bands, percussion ensembles, operas, and chamber ensembles. In graduate school, I was able to arrange marching shows, Direct large and small ensembles. When I was at the University of Memphis, I was the percussion instructor from 2013-2016.
My methods of teaching change with each student. All individuals learn differently. I start by seeing where each individual is and how they react to the material. We first learn basics and move as fast as the individual can or wants to. I want all my students to play pieces by themselves and with others (not just the same instruments). I’m always wanting my students to be a well rounded individual in music and in life. I don’t look as myself as a music instructor but a person gearing a person up to conquer anything they want.
From the first time I taught a person how to do a drum roll I was hooked on teaching. My goal is to teach 1 million people. I love seeing how excited my students get after they “get it.” There is never any down time in a lesson, I always have many lessons prepare for a student. I want my students to take control and do the assignments without me assigning them. Performances are very important to me. I want my students to perform at least 2 in a semester. I believe this helps them feel more confident with every performance under their belt.
