2019 - Celebration Of Humanities Classical Composition
I'm a passionate, patient Piano instructor. My job is to get you to the point where you don't need me anymore. I can bring you from zero knowledge of music or of any instrument, to being able to perform with confidence, and have an advanced understanding of Music theory. You, whatever your background, can learn chord charts, classical music, learning a pop song by ear, ideal playing techniques, music theory, anything that you're willing to work for. Together we can develop your musicianship to the point where it's a natural extension of your identity and a place for expression.
I've played Piano for over a decade, performed countless recitals, played in churches for years. Won composition awards, etc. I'd love to help you reach your musical goals, whatever those may be.
Piano will teach you discipline, focus, control, musicality, expression. All of these, and much more, will only come from PRACTICE and CONFIDENCE. Piano has really improved and enriched my life, and I'm sure it can do the same for you. It will take patience, and you will want to quit sometimes, but I'm happy to guide you through all of it. I've never met anyone who has regretted learning an instrument. I try to teach in a way that gets you to internalize and think about music in your own way so that you feel accomplishment.
I typically use Piano Adventures books. I start with teaching what each note on the Piano is, then how each note corresponds to what you see on paper, then I teach intervals, then scales, then chords, then harmonic structure, etc. All the while progressing through more and more fun and tricky pieces in the books. Eventually, I introduce solo pieces for each individual depending on what they want to learn/what they're interested in. I relate the Music theory practically and in a way that helps them realize why things sound the way they do.
We all had a journey that brought us to where we are musically. I've had many different kinds of teachers, but the best way to learn music is to combine excellent instruction with teaching yourself the music in a personal exploration adventure. I'll set tangible, completely possible goals for you that will stretch your abilities. You and I will explore music and relate it to what you already know. It will feel second nature to you. You already have all the tools you need to start learning music. It'll be fun.
