Graduated Cum Laude

Overview:

Hi, my name is David R. I love teaching and getting students of all ages and experience levels interested in music and leveling up their skills! I'm a local Boston musician and recent graduate from the Berklee School of Music with a Bachelor of Music Cum Laude. As an active musician, I play over 100+ gigs a year in Boston and the New England area including festival dates, and play a variety of styles including Rock, Jazz, Pop, Country, Folk, Bluegrass, RnB, and Funk. I got into music because of great teachers and I want to continue with that work and inspire players like my younger self!

EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching lessons for 5 years now and got started teaching while studying at Berklee, since then I have grown a lot as a teacher. I have taught guitar and music production at Needham Public High School, where I taught students of all skill levels in classroom settings. I also currently teach at School of Rock Watertown where I teach private lessons as well as ensembles. In both of these jobs, I worked with students of varying age ranges from 7 to 70+ and learned techniques to make information stick. I also teach private lessons to fans that I have acquired playing around Boston, these are usually more advanced lessons where we talk about music theory and higher-level technique.

METHODS USED

for younger students, we usually work through a book together to understand the fundamentals of music before we start to approach more complex lessons. I tend to use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements as well as other series' depending on the student's level and musical interest. For adult lessons, I typically create a unique lesson plan that includes warmups, technique exercises, and the learning of songs or solos all dependent on that student's particular interests. I try to keep my adult lessons very goal-oriented so that we're sure of what work looking to achieve and are constantly taking meaningful steps to get there!

LESSON STYLE

Teaching private music lessons to students of all ages and experience levels is a dynamic and rewarding endeavor that requires adaptability and a tailored approach. To begin, I start by assessing each student's individual goals, musical tastes, and prior experience. For beginners, I focus on building a strong foundation in music theory, basic techniques, and instrument proficiency. As students progress, I gradually introduce more complex concepts and repertoire suited to their interests and abilities. Regardless of age, I believe in fostering a passion for music by making lessons engaging and enjoyable. This involves incorporating a variety of teaching methods, from traditional sheet music to ear training and improvisation, to cater to diverse learning styles. I provide regular feedback, encouragement, and constructive criticism to foster continuous improvement. Ultimately, my goal as a music teacher is to nurture each student's unique musical journey, ensuring they not only develop their skills but also develop a lifelong love for creating music.

David and I are both teachers and bandmates. We discuss our teaching philosophy often, and he is very passionate and committed. He is also a performer, which is a plus in the classroom, because he communicates with his audience (the student) well. I highly recommend David R!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
