I'm a young talented pianist originally from Armenia, who, despite his young age, has already won in many prestigious international piano competitions. Having started my education from the age of 6, I have played in numerous concert halls all over the world which include Jordan Hall in Boston, Corcoran Hall in Washington DC, historical Megaro Gyzy hall in Santorini Island in Greece, Russian Conservatory Great hall in Paris, Rachmaninov Philharmonic Hall in Moscow, etc. My solo repertoire includes pieces ranging from Baroque era to modern music, which makes me a unique expert in piano performance in regards to styles, various techniques and musical interpretation. Also, I have taken numerous private master-classes from well known piano masters such as Boris Berman (Dean of piano department at Yale University), Alexander Korsantia (Professor at New England Conservatory, winner of Rubinstein international piano competition), Jura Margulis (Professor at Arkansas University), Ian Fountain (Professor at Royal Academy of Music in London), which makes me familiar with different music teaching "schools" of performance.
My first teaching attempts are associated with the years of my education at Yerevan State Conservatory. Being the laureate of various prestigious competitions and earning outstanding scores during the entrance exams granted me the honor of becoming the assistant professor at the conservatory. Under the supervision of well-known pianist/pedagogue Armen Babakhanyan I got acquainted with the amazing world of music education and piano pedagogy. In addition, I was participating in a specially designed music program to develop music schools in Yerevan. During the program I taught children under 15 years old. Due to my commitment to my new students I was asked to continue as a teacher in one of the major music schools in Armenia (Sayat-Nova Music School). Regardless of my 16 years experience as a performer and 5 years as a teacher I'm longing to continue my journey as a teacher so that I will not miss the opportunity to share my knowledge and discover new talents.
Depending on the level of the student, there are three structures of lessons I provide. The course for beginners includes introduction to sound, keyboard of piano, touch, playing from the scores, synchronization of hands. It is taught with easy classic exercises and well-known pieces like Scarlatti sonatas,Czerni etudes and Bach's two/three voice inventions. During intermediate level course the main focus is on pedals, basic dynamics of performance, two-three voice patterns and phrasing, Finally, the last but not least, the course for advanced students includes introduction to the form of classical sonatas of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, virtuoso etudes of Chopin, Liszt, more complex articulation and more complex romantic pieces like Hungarian Rhapsodies,Ballads and Scherzi.
I think the most effective and the shortest way to learn something is to approach it as a game. Thus, the process of learning the ideology of piano touch and phrasing should involve as many games as possible. However, this does not apply to further process of learning as music is one of the most complicated forms of art and it demands deep emotional and conceptual approach. The games of the first stages should help students to develop their creativity, musical imagination and skills to interpret emotions. Eventually, these games bring out the students' ability to create visual images of dramatic parts of music in their mind which is the most important tool for every artist.
