Overview:

Hey! My name's David and I can't wait to meet you and show you how to get into music! I started percussion in 6th grade but I believe that you can start whenever if you really want to. Since then I've grown immensely, both through my own practice and through playing with many ensembles, including but not limited to the Seven Lakes High School Wind Ensemble, the Meadows Jazz Orchestra, the Meadows Symphony Orchestra, and Meadows Percussion Ensemble. I've got a lot of experience under my belt and I can't wait to share it with you!

EXPERIENCE

I'm relatively new to the teaching life, but I love it regardless. I started in September of 2018 with one student who I taught throughout the semester, and seeing him grow throughout the months was satisfying unlike anything else I've experienced. I taught one student a semester due to my school commitments but still managed to teach them a lot and open their eyes to the world of music. I believe that teaching and passing down knowledge is how society gets better, including music. I want my students to feel confident in their abilities and look forward to our lessons and getting better overall.

METHODS USED

For beginners, which is mainly what I've taught so far, I try and see what their goals are and teach them accordingly. Both students I've taught have had entirely different goals, one just trying to learn drumset and the other wanting to learn a song for his talent show. The first, I taught using my own books that I have learned from, and the second I taught by just going through the song slowly, taking it apart, and learning it section by section. I've ordered more books so that I can teach more efficiently and so that even kids who just want to learn songs can broaden their horizons.

LESSON STYLE

My teaching style is very laidback yet focused. I'm still a student myself so I know that my students might not have time to practice every day, but at the same time, you've got to practice consistently to see results. I focus on trying to get those consistent results while still making sure my students have fun in the process. One of the most rewarding things about music is finally learning a song you've been trying to learn for a while or realizing how far you've come, and I know I can help my students reach that fulfilling point.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
