I'm a very passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I have been raised up all around music. In my school years, I participated in band where I learned the technical aspects of music such as reading and writing notation. After graduation, performing in various bands across the United States has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to tour both Houston, Texas with the group “Members Only” and “The Carter McKay Band”, as well as busking in Nashville and performing in various groups there, all the way back to Birmingham, AL where I have played with several bands and have started my own self titled brand.
My teaching experience dates back to my High School years, as I began teaching private lessons part time 10 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students throughout my life for the last 10 years. I encourage regular practice on a consistent schedule, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that getting my beginner students learning the songs they want to learn can go a long way in helping students enjoy the guitar and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. It’s supposed to be fun! My advanced students are given the tools encouragement to work on music theory, as well as composing their own original material, As well as given instruction on how to create their own brand and market themselves to grow their own profitable music career. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
For beginning students, I typically start with the basic essentials needed to get a feel for the instrument, and to read music. Then once they have that accomplished, we move straight on to learning their favorite songs as this is when the most progress can be gained. Once the student has grasped these fundamentals, We can move on to the more creative side of things by moving into Theory and Songwriting. After that, we can move on to music business training to lean how to launch and maintain a profitable music career.
I feel that it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals and assignments for my students at each lesson. This measurable progression of accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Of course finding out the students “problem areas” is also paramount to helping them progress at the fastest rate possible. I also believe that while our relationship is professional, I do take a personal interest in each of my students as some of the best teachers I have ever had, took a personal interest in me.
