ABOUT

2021 El Camino College Merit Scholarship

Overview:

My name is De Ana A., Singer/Songwriter, Worship Leader with 20 years of stage performance, worship leading, & teaching. As CEO of Voice Activated I am passionate about equipping the next generation of singers, songwriters and voices to be unstoppable in their God-given voices and purpose through the arts. I specialize in helping artists and singers unlock their full vocal potential through personalized, goal-oriented voice lessons. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies as a Vocalist from California State University Northridge, and have extensive training in Bel Canto Classical Technique, as well as theater acting, singing, and auditioning. My approach is holistic, focusing on both technical skills and emotional expression to develop well-rounded performers. I am passionate about guiding students to achieve their musical goals and build confidence both on stage and off. I also travel around the United States, bringing new sounds and soul-piercing music to various venues, further enriching my teaching with real-world performance insights.

EXPERIENCE

I have a comprehensive background in voice and music education, including: - Classical Voice Technique Training: Trained for 4 years. - Bachelor of Music in Jazz Vocal Performance: This degree has provided me with a strong foundation in jazz and contemporary music styles. - Performance Experience: Over 20 years of performance experience across various genres, including classical, jazz, pop, folk, rock, a cappella, musical theatre, worship, and Mexican folk/mariachi music. Teaching Experience: I have been teaching music privately and in group settings for over 10 years, helping students of all ages and skill levels. Working with Young Kids: In addition to music, I have an extensive background in working with young children in various capacities for 11 years, including special needs kids, which has enhanced my ability to connect with and teach younger students effectively.

METHODS USED

My process for working with new voice students begins with an initial intake form, where I learn about your musical background, goals, and any specific areas you’d like to improve. Following this, we schedule a first Discovery Lesson. This initial lesson allows us to get to know each other, assess your current abilities, and establish a baseline. Based on this assessment, I create a personalized lesson plan tailored to your unique needs and aspirations. Throughout our lessons, I provide consistent feedback and support to ensure you are making progress and enjoying the learning process.

LESSON STYLE

My teaching style is personalized, goal-oriented, but also fun focused. I take a personalized approach, focusing on understanding each student's unique vocal goals, strengths, and areas for improvement. By setting large, medium, and small SMART goals, I ensure that progress is tangible and attainable, helping students build confidence in their vocal abilities. I also believe in making the lessons feel fun and be gratifying in the process of hitting smaller goals and Student Learning Outcomes, as the student also works towards more long term goals. Lastly, support and accountability are also integral parts of my teaching style. Even in individual lessons, I foster a supportive environment, offering resources like mp3 practice tracks, youtube videos, and other homework to keep students engaged and track their progress. I also provide regular feedback and encouragement to ensure continuous improvement. Lastly, I do weekly and multiple times a week check-in's with my students to encouragement and ensure they feel supported to continue making progress.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
