Overview:
I am a multi-instrumentalist and have experience in almost all the different music instruments. I have experience in Piano, Violin, Viola, String Bass, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone Horn, Euphonium, French Horn, guitar, and percussion. I mainly teach Piano, Violin, and Clarinet. I am classical trained and in becoming a music teacher has been a dream come true. I want to show my passion for music with others. I hope that I can make music a positive experience as it have to me for my students.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience goes way back to when I was a senior in high school. I was the assistant band teacher. I was leading band and sectionals in almost every instruments since I played 20 instruments. I end up volunteering for two years while I was in college and taught beginning band for freshmens in my high school. At the same time, I was teaching private lessons part-time. I have been teaching private and group lessons for more than 20 years. Consistency is the key. I try to make my lessons fun. I want all my students to enjoy music as much as I did.
METHODS USED
Music is like learning a new language. Its a completely different concept. For beginning children repetion is the key. Children love repetion so Suzuki is perfect. Dr. Suzuki's idea is the mother and child learn the instrument at the same time so that the child can hear the tunes and can play it on the violin. Its the same idea that the suzuki method comes with a CD that the child can listen to. As for the piano, its similiar. I like the alfred method so that students can see how to read music and the hand position.
LESSON STYLE
Teaching music is a very rewarding experience. Its often nice to see a student to be able to open their eyes and understand the music concept. Every child is different. I like to let each student to progress at their own pace. Patience is the key here when learning to play a new music instrument. I am very flexible and layback. Students enjoying playing their instrument and enloying their lessons is more important than being able to master a piece of music. I do rewuire students to practice at a minimum of 30 minutes three times a week.
