I am a passionate musician who loves to perform in various types of ensembles, create concepts and new ideas in musical composition, and teach students to become closer and more confident in their playing. During my studies at Temple College, I have performed for many well-known musicians including John Mackey, Wyckoff Gordon, and Luis Cknte. I have performed across Texas, including the Mary Gibbs Jones Cincert Hall at Baylor University, in groups big and small, ranging from 3-person chamber ensembles to bands and orchestras as large as 200 musicians.
My experience in teaching reaches back to my senior year (2017-2018) of high school, where I used my free time to volunteer at a middle school in my home town. When I reached college that summer, I began teaching friends and several of their family members, as well as middle school and high school students across Central Texas, out of my make-shift studio, from 2018 until 2020, when the lock-down took place. I currently teach part-time lessons out of my home studio in Copperas Cove, Texas. I focus on bringing out students talents and highlighting areas where they can improve, while bringing out their interest in growing as a musician. Though lessons are a key point in improving upon a students skills, consistent practice schedules at home are also an important step to growth in skill level. I will always recommend pushing students to enter competitions or perform in recitals, if they are available to them, but will never force a student into taking part in something out of reach or something uncomfortable. The students comfort is a top priority!
I will start youbg beginner students with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. As the student progresses, I will introduce solo literature appropriate for their skill level. For older beginners, I will assess their interests in order to keep them interested in their new instrument. For students with more experience, I will assess their skill level and assign exercises to further develop their fundamentals, and assign literature to grow the student's repertoire that will also reinforce their strong points while strengthening other points in their playing.
Setting goals is an important step to growing as a musician. That is why at the start of our first lesson, I will assess what the student wishes to gain from our time together, and from our second lesson onwards, we will set smaller goals to be attained at the end of each lesson. Reaching goals in any regard, and can improve the student's satisfaction in their playing, as well as improve their view on music as a whole. My main goal is to help the student enjoy music, so I will always keep a positive and optimistic view in our lessons.
