I am a passionate musician and teacher that enjoys a variety of styles. In recent years, I have made a number of recordings in both classical and rock styles that can be seen on my Youtube channel, and I have been teaching music classes at Binghamton University at the undergraduate level. My main instrument is piano, but through my composition studies, I have a broad understanding of how to play a number of instruments. I have even led a variety of ensembles through conducting and by leading on piano.
I have given piano lessons on and off as early as ten years ago when I was first starting my undergraduate studies. Through my time at Mansfield University, I studied piano and developed my skills to an advanced level. My studies in Music Theory and Composition at Binghamton University have also aided in my composing skills. My time teaching and accompanying choirs at Binghamton University have given me even more experience in teaching students of differing ages. My ensemble experience has also given me plenty of teaching moments with musicians of varying skill levels.
For young children, I usually choose teaching books that are more fun and give them a basic start with understanding musical symbols by performing tasks in their books. Once students begin to understand how to read and play, I start to introduce the next level of material for them. For adults, I focus on what they are interested in and give more in-depth theory or compositional discussions if they wish or guide them towards playing pieces they always wanted to learn. It is important to always be leading towards whatever the student is interested in learning.
No matter my students age or initial skill level, whether they are a college student, a child, or an adult, I work to bring out their potential and guide them towards a fresh passion for music. I treat each student as their own individual and guide them along at their own pace. Each lesson, I set whatever goals I believe they can reach by next lesson, and I encourage them to experiment or find music they're interested in to make each lesson a fun experience. This can lead to learning other skills such as improv and composing.
