I am an extremely motivated instructor who desires to give the student clear instruction & guidance towards their successful music career/future. I am most comfortable with probing the student as to where they would like to arrive musically, this way I am careful to provide them with only the pertinent tools towards that specific goal. I don't believe in overburdening students with information that they will not benefit from directly. Music is easily attainable as long as you have proper direction! I enjoy teaching those who have a desire to learn!!!
I have been teaching since 1990 while at Cal Poly University. I am also professionally sanctioned to provide music instruction [by Lori J.R. Huff/Cal Poly University]! I have provided instruction for Ontario Music, All That's Music/Chino, Arise Academy of the Arts/Pomona on various instruments! I can professionally provide quality musical instruction on the following: Flute, Piccolo, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Bari Saxophones, Trumpet, French Horn, Tenor/Baritone Horn, Trombone, Mellophone, Sousaphone/Tuba, Marching Drums, Drum Set, Percussions, Piano/Keyboards/Synthesizers, as well as beginner to advanced theory [focusing on modal counterpoint, rhythmic patterns, and harmony structures!].
I believe in giving the student specific direction towards their ultimate musical goal(s)! I never want to burden the student with additional theoretic facts and/or practices that will not support their vision. It is all about the student and having them arrive at precisely the musical destination that they are desiring. So, I take my time to find that information out up front so that I can be a vital part of them achieving that very goal. This methodology has proven to very successful for me over the past 20+years of teaching!
My style is very personal and decorated around the specific goals of the student. I utilize several lesson books that I have already purchased, however I also create pertinent lesson plans personally. Some are created right on the spot as we are in the lesson itself. I find that this gives the student a more specifically specialized guide for their direct needs surrounding any subject matter. I have no problems with creating homework assignments as I notice that a student is having a particular issue with any given subject!

Dez is an awesome musician. She loves her music and is great at many instruments. I love listening to her play the piano, sax and when she sings. You can tell that she takes all her music very seriously. I want to learn to play the piano and I have asked Dez to be my teacher because I know she will put her heart into every lesson and help me to learn at my pace. She has good patience so I know she will keep me at the pace she feels I can learn without getting frustrated because she loves everyone to do their best. Dez is an excellent instructor, very direct while still being patient. She focuses on the most useful and direct ways of learning rather than excessive busy work. She accelerates my knowledge immensely. Other music teachers I've had just seem to go around in circles without progressing your understanding of music in general. She is able to find the right pace to keep you ingaged and focused at whatever level you are at.
