Bachelor Degree: Nazareth College School of Music
2021 - Presidents Scholarship
Hi, I am a kind and creative music instructor who loves working with students of all ages. I attended Nazareth College School of Music in Rochester, New York from 2018-2022. I received a degree in Music Education with a double primary of Trombone and Oboe, I know a little weird. I am currently attending Oklahoma City University for Multiple Woodwind Performance, meaning I am a performance major that specializes in all the woodwinds, expect one, so flute, clarinet, oboe, and saxophone. I do have experience on the bassoon and many of the brass instruments at the beginning levels.
My teaching experience started 5 years ago. I was a senior in high school and was teaching a beginning student the trombone. Throughout the past 5 years I have continued to teach students when I was able to. I encourage regular practice and maintaining a consistent schedule. I always say 10 minutes a day is better then 30 minutes every 3 days. For younger students a combination or aural learning and written learning are great ways to help them engage and keep an interest. Everyone likes being able to play a fun sounding piece from memory to impress your friends. For older students, typically there is a specific goal in mind or genre you want to play and that will be the main forus as a 'classical' training is not super important.
Like I said in my experience section. I believe that students of different ages that are just starting instruments will have different wants and needs. So my teaching style will change a bit. Younger students, such as children, should get a healthy mix of popular music and some form of 'classical' training, I am including Jazz and other genres in the 'classical' as there is large amounts of history and techniques to explore. I will introduce solos and other repertoire that is appropriate for solo performances and competitions they may want to participate in. Generally, my teaching style will be different for each student as each student will have different needs.
The biggest accomplishment to me is helping students of all ages fall in love with music just like I did as a child. Students do not need to perform infront of others if they truly wish not to, as long as they enjoy what they are doing. It is important that a student continues to progress during their time with me, however this will be at their own pace. Finding out what goals each student has and what inspires them in order to tailor my instruction to each student is critical to the students development in music. The more my students are excited to play more and learn the fast they progress and the more fun music they get to play.
