Bachelor of Science in Recording Arts from Full Sail University
TI:ME (Technology in Music Education) award for best Original Composition 2012;2013
I'm 23 years old with over 10+ years of experience in writing music and live performance. I'm originally from New Jersey, where I taught music lessons to a wide age range of students for 2+ years, as well as performed live music in the NY, NJ, PA area.
I graduated from Full Sail University in 2015 with my Bachelor of Science in Recording Arts, where I studied the art of audio engineering and the fundamental workings of the music and recording industry. Since my graduation, I have worked with many professional and independent music production companies and have grossed over 1 million total plays on social media sites such as Facebook, Youtube, Soundcloud, and Spotify.
I have experience in vocals, guitar, piano, bass, drums/ percussion and music production. My first experience with teaching music was when I was 14 years old, writing songs and playing in bands. I have a music production background, so my writing process has always started on the computer. I used to write, produce, and arrange these songs by myself and then teach the parts to each retrospective member in my band. I didn't even realize at the time that what I was doing was a form of teaching. While job searching after I graduated school in 2015, I started to take on private music lessons across my home state of New Jersey. This was the first time I had formerly become a paid music instructor. I have taught a wide range of students from ages 5 to mid 20's.
For beginner students, I base my syllabus off of music education series such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, and other well known education series. It varies depending on the age and development of the student. I have a collection youtube-type internet tutorial videos that I keep handy for specific techniques and purposes. For instruments such as vocals, I find its important to teach students techniques of strengthening the voice while also learning proper vocal preservation. For instruments such as guitar and piano, I put a focus on understanding the fundamentals of rhythm, music notation (if applicable to the student's goals), and music composition.
My style of teaching varies from student to student depending on age, development, and experience with their instrument. While there are some students that can easily be inspired by the idea of playing music, there are others that require a little more patience at first. Either way, it's important for me to understand how I need to adapt my style of teaching depending on the student in order to help them achieve realistic goals. If my students are truly passionate about music, I feel that a part of my job is to give them the tools so that they can learn to teach themselves
