ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Bachelor's of Arts, Reinhardt University, Music Performance.  Focus on classical guitar with additional training on upright bass and piano.  Graduated Cum Laude
Awards:

Reinhard University- Presidential Scholarship

Reinhardt University- Honors Certificate

Overview:
I have a love for teaching as well as for learning, and am always sudying something new.  I have experience performing in a range of styles, from classical to jazz to rock and pop to bluegrass.  After graduating from Reinhardt University, I took contracts on cruise ships, playing electric bass in show bands and orchestras on Carnival and Princess cruise lines; this gave me the chance to see much of the world, as well as the opportunity to perform challenging music nightly.  I am now living in Norfolk, Virginia, and I teach and perform all over the Hampton Roads area.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching in Atlanta, shortly after I graduated college in 2009.  I have experience teaching all age ranges, from 5 or 6 to adult.
METHODS USED
I like to tailor my lessons towards the styles that the student is interested, while also teaching about music theory, reading, and any music history that is relevant to the students' interests.  For rock and pop music, I find that there are a wealth of songbooks available.  For students interested in classical guitar, I like using Christopher Parkening's guitar method; it contains a great deal of useful information and diagrams, as well as a great selection of beginner pieces.
LESSON STYLE
I love watching my students learn and grow, musically.  I encourage listening as much as possible in addition to daily practice.  I like to give my students a variety of excercises or pieces to work on to ensure that they don't get bored or burnt out practicing the same thing.  I am very laid back and easy to get along with, and I feel that above all else music should be exciting and fun for the student, whether it be performing in recitals or shows or simply for one's own enjoyment.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
