I'm a recently graduated student from Longy School of Music of Bard College with a Master Degree in Clarinet Performance. I started my musical career while been a College student in my native country, Cuba. My performing experience has been very varied, from the Cuban Clarinet Quartet Ebanos de La Habana to the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba and the Ballet and Opera Orchestra of Havana. Once in the United States I had the opportunity to attend to the Woodwind International Festival in Pella Iowa and been part of the Longy Conservatory Orchestra and held concerts with chamber groups and clarinet quartets, also playing in gigs around Boston Area with a clarinet and guitar Duet.
My teaching experience began 12 years ago when I was a high school student as a requirement of the Pedagogy class of the Conservatory I was studiying. I began teaching private lessons in a Elementary music School. Through the years I become a clarinet and chamber Music teacher in a Conservatory and hold a home studio until I decided to pursue my musical studies. Here in the States I began giving private lessons around the Boston area, as part of a pedagogy program I taught privateclarinet lessons and Band sectionals in Cambridge and Brighton Elementary Schools. Lastly I have a teaching Assistanship in and Upper Elementary School in Cambridge.
I start teaching to beginners, mostly kids and teenagers, the French Clarinet Method of H. Klose book 1 accompained by an appropiate solo repertoire for the level and warm up excersices, once the student has progressed with all the clarinet fundamental tecniques I introduce the second part of the method and varied solo pieces that can be performed in solo recital performances, and school concerts. In the case of adult students I make an evaluation of their level and abilities with the instrument and elaborate a program regarding to their main interest with the instrument that keeps them engaged. I'm also willing to give music history and theory information regarding to the lesson and level I'm teaching. I also elaborate groupal lessons of two or three students and work with the instrument warm up,techniques and chamber music pieces. That create a fun evironment at the moment of the lessons and the student can share their learning experience with firends and family.
My main goal in my teaching style is to develop the passion for music in students, music helps them to analize and think, create and provide progress in their school activities and classes. I'm trying always to create a friendly atmosphere using an entry point to better explained a musical piece and its characteristics. I also motivate them reproducing videos and recordings of specific music styles, famous clarinet players. I found very productive to help them to associate musical ideas with colors, images, animals, movies and cartoons that develops imagination and creativity.
