2002- Pensacola Christian College Music Scholarship
I have loved music and made it a part of my life since I was a child. I grew up performing for state and national competitions as well as on stage. After years of performing I finally decided it was my true passion and began studying it in college. I graduated from Pensacola Christian College with a B.A. in Music (proficiency in Voice) in 2002 and continued studying until I graduated in 2006 with an M.A. in Music (proficiency in Voice) in 2006. I have been teaching music lessons since I was in high school in the areas of Voice, Flute, and Piano. I have been a part of 2 different performing arts schools and had the opportunity to help many students both child and adult see the amazing beauty that is music.
I began teaching flute lessons in 1996. Since then I have taught lessons in Voice, Flute, and Piano at 2 different local performing arts schools as well as several private lessons outside of the school. I have been involved in teaching students the beauty of music for over a decade. I also have several years of stage performance. I have performed in college and with the Pensacola Opera in several operas and musicals including: Aida, The Magic Flute, The Barber of Seville, The Marriage of Figaro, La Boheme, La Traviata, L'elisir d'amore, Pirates of Penzance, Ruddigore, etc.
I start out with the basics of music. Those are the foundation for any student to become successful at any instrument. Depending on the age of the student, the instrument, and their skill level I have several different books that I find to be best for lessons and practice. I believe in a good mixture of practice and exercises as well as performing solo pieces. I highly encourage practicing regularly. I feel it's important for every student to enjoy performing and will seek out opportunities to do so.
I believe that everyone has the ability to learn and enjoy music. Each person does that in their own way and their own speed. I believe in setting goals based on each student's skill level and understanding. I believe that hard work will show reward and I always expect each student to put into the music what they want to get from it. I want every student to see the beauty of music and so I encourage all my students to explore all areas of music and find what inspires and moves them. Together I know that we will find the music in each and every student.
