Overview:
As a session guitarist, I have had the opportunity to share the stage with Eric Bellinger, songwriter/producer for Justin Bieber and Usher, VJ Rosales of the Filharmonics, James Corden Show house acapella group. I currently perform both live and studio sessions around southern California. I attended music conservatory overseas when I was younger, but bloomed musically under the mentorship of Billy Meza, musician for Gladys Knight and the Temptations of the golden soul era. I wish to give back just as much as I have been given through my teaching.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching began back in his high school day as a Math/English tutor based on the recommendation of his teacher, which later greatly aided me in my now decade long music teaching career. Music is a very personal development, thus I greatly emphasize in establishing connection between teacher and student as well as an understanding of learning approach the student is inclined to. In addition, becoming a manager of a music school helped me immerse in the music education community. Attending conferences, networking with leading voices in the community has really helped me perfect my teaching method/structure.
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are children, be able to capture their excitement and build on top of that is very important. 90% of students gave up playing within the first year is because they felt...bored. My method get students quickly be able to play along with songs that they like or hear often in their daily life (ex. radio) then we break down the fundamentals behind the songs and gear the song toward a more classical approach to help students gain a comprehensive understanding, solid foundation and techniques. For adults, I really emphasize on teaching them to eventually become their own teacher, to not just play music, but to create them. Being able to find the time to practice can be quite challenging for adults. Thus in my teaching, I emphasize on different methods of practicing effectively with the time they have.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than helping a student develop a passion for music and express them musically. I always emphasize the fun in music. Music is fun, so I makes it a goal to keep the lesson fun, with clear and achievable goals to keep the students inspired and practicing. Even more so, my experience in teaching has shown me the improvements in other aspects of student developments, especially in the younger ones. My lesson often involves developing motor skills, memory and focus, and even problem solving as students are encouraged to have an opinion on how to overcome challenges together. Music skills are life skills too:)
