Overview:
I'm an accomplished and passionate instructor who enjoys working with motivated students. I offer a love of music that translates into a connection with students and parents who sincerely want to advance. I graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1980-81. I have had the opportunity to perform and minister all over the world. I take a "student-centered" approach to working with the student (and also with parents of younger students), I will coach and advance this "team" toward the desired goals and outcomes.
EXPERIENCE
I come from a long line of musicians, teachers and performers. Teaching music is totally in my blood. I offer a lifetime of experience and success in teaching, performance and ministry. I use performance, recitals, school and church concerts and festivals, etc. to foster musicianship. I encourage musical creativity and experimentation to foster accomplishment and keep my students motivated. My students have gone on in music ministry and careers around the world. I am always looking to bring on new students of all ages. One of my greatest joys is to see my students grow and excel.
METHODS USED
My students get a strong base in theory, technique, and repertoire...usually focused on identified goals and outcomes. As students grow in ability and age, I engage their interests more so their instruction is more fulfilling. I use a unique approach to practice (I call the "nitty-gritty") with lots of fun (I call "music recreation") are techniques I use to keep students motivated. There is W-O-R-K to music. I will keep the focus on the accomplishment so that work may become ethic that lasts a lifetime.
LESSON STYLE
Sometimes musicianship is as much "caught" as it is "taught." So, it's important to carefully monitor and foster a student's progress. I will use a lot of coaching, affirmation, reassurance, and encouragement to fuel a student's progress and desire to stay with it. Training in several disciplines help to identify and cater my teaching style to the needs of the student. I don't use a "cookie cutter" approach to teaching. Again, I call my teaching style and methods "student-centered." Though every student moves at their own pace, I work to keep each one on the leading edge of their progress.
