Overview:
I am an energetic music educator that truly enjoys to teach. It’s a delight to see students develop their talents. I have been a public school teacher of choir for many years. I love music and my job and students will see my passions. I went to TCNJ for my BM, Rutgers for my MM, and Rowan for my EdD. I love teaching the student and being the student. I teach several choirs, AP music theory, and music technology at school and piano and voice privately. If you are interested in theory lessons I can do that too.
EXPERIENCE
I have over 18 years experience teaching public school. I have also been teaching piano and voice lessons. I love teaching all ages and all levels of students. I have experience working with all genres. I can teach classical, pop, musical theatre, jazz, opera, and others. I encourage regular practice and allow students to pick music that is interesting for them. I enjoy celebrating milestones with my students and encourage them to do their best. Every student learns different and I can change styles depending on the learner.
METHODS USED
I have experience teaching all levels and genres and change my teaching to what is best suited for the learner. With piano students I enjoy using John Thompson and Alfred methods for beginners and I choose different songs as students get more experience. For voice students I use simple songs to develop their vocal technique. Through effective warmups and reading, students will develop musicianship skills. I focus on technique development through music learning. Students that start lessons off with great technical development will achieve quicker and faster!
LESSON STYLE
I teach based on what is best suited for the learner. All students learn differently and at different speeds. Students will be able to choose repertoire and learn technique through the music they love. Students are encouraged to discuss the music that they are interested in, their goals, and interests. Students will be encouraged to practice and will be recognized when they have success and accomplishments. Learning about the student also helps me to understand their future goals with music. Most importantly I love what I do.
