I’m a current student at Fresno State University I’m a performing music major. I’ve been playing cello for over 10 years. I love being a musician I get to teach and I get to perform two amazing things! I have traveled to Italy to play in the International Cremona Festival. I play in the Fresno State Orchestra and Chamber music ensemble. I played in the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles. I was apart of the Harmony Project for several years. I plan on teaching and performing as my career.
Hello,
My name is Dorothy and I have been teaching for two years! I love working with my students my goal as an instructor is to show how playing music is fun, exciting and educational. I encourage my students to practice at least 30 minutes of all their music every day. I want my students to see music as a source of expression and communication. Technique and fun are my two goals as a teacher. Fundamentals are supper important to improving as a musician if you can’t have the basics down it’s going to be harder to advance. Students of all ages are welcome!
For all my students I want to get to know their interests and goals as a musician. I always start with technique and scales with 2 pieces. I always suggest using a metronome and tuner and listening to recordings of the pieces. Physical positioning with the cello is also very important incorrect instruction on posture can lead to injury’s, discomfort and intonation problems. I want to educate my student and give correct information and teach them in the best way possible. Looking forward to working with you!
I like to give my students a range of music they can choose from something that they would like to play, something that would make them want to practice because they are interested in learning It. All my students will have homework. They have till the next time I see them which is usually a weeks time period. This is important because it can’t be too much work it has to be engaging and fun but technical so that the student can improve their skills. I like to acknowledging the work my student put into their music. I believe this creates a confidence and a love for the instrument.
