Overview:
Hello students of music I am a passionate educator of music. I am always excited when it comes to helping students through the process of musical discovery. Whether we're working on overcoming certain physical demands of their instruments to the mental gymnastics of music theory composition and arranging principals. I've obtained undergraduate and graduate Music performance degrees from the University of DC and Western Michigan University. I have extensenve experience and knowledge in performance and composition. I have shared the stage performing and writing compositions and arrangements for various who's whos of the music world. These artists range from the legendary Fred Payne to composing arrangements for Lebanese music legend Charbel Rohanna.
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching private students during my undergraduate years. During these years many of the students were beginners who were starting in beginning band. Shortly after my undergraduate studies I taught music in the classroom for the next 15 years. My classroom experience range from grades pre k- collegiate. I've taught courses in general music, various theory and composition courses, instrumental band and orchestra. I've also taught brass methods courses for educators in their preparation for teaching instrumental music.
METHODS USED
For many of my newbie beginners who are young in age I will approach them with two preferred methods for instrumental music. Those are Essential Elements and Accent on Achievement. These methods are great because they get the student playing right away, but still retain a slow and steady tragectory as to not overwhelm the student either. For my older students who may either be returning to music or even just starting out there are various adult beginner methods I use that go at a similar pace and keep the adult student interested.
LESSON STYLE
I am a very passionate teacher who gets excited while relaying information to motivated students. I also like to engage students by having them consider anything they may wish to learn to do in addition to the normal fundamental method. Along with this, the student is to write down a goal, then we'll start tracking progress toward that goal by documenting the progress. I like to do this as a way to allow the student to take ownership of his or her's personal progress. I truly believe a student's level of enjoyment is directly linked to their level of advancement.
